NIE Windom/OCFD 40 Special
Product Information
Here is my version of the 66ft special using a Guanella 4:1 Current Balun
This antenna is made using the same 4mm2 Tri-rated cable - H/D insulators
A simple design that fits into the average garden yet covers all the popular HF bands. Because the radiator is only a quarter wave on 80m, your signal will be about 3- 4dB down on this band 1 S-point or so, signals are generally strong on this band, the difference is more than acceptable in order to fit the antenna in to the limited space.
On the other bands, 40m - 10m, you will enjoy full NIE Windom (OCFD) performance & you might even squeeze in 6mtrs. Internal atu will tune all bands (except 80mtr)
Also note that with this model you will need to use an external Transmatch: Required on 80mtrs. I would recommend feeding this antenna with approximately 67 feet of RG Mini 8 this will assist tuning.
Second choice for tuning:- MFJ's 914 AutoTuner Extender transforms your antenna impedance up or down as much as 10 times! Puts nearly any antenna into the range of your automatic tuner. Extends range of manual antenna tuners also. Use with any transceiver 160 through 10 Meters with up to 300 Watts. On/Off, Bypass positions. MFJ-914 was carefully designed for flattest frequency response and lowest loss.(It really works I have one)
